His companies aren’t publically traded so there is no stock or stock price. When stocks rise or fall it impacts Net Worth but Income Taxes are based on Net Income and that is completely different. If you sell stock for a loss you can take a Capital loss and apply it against future Capital Gains but that is only when stock is bought and sold. Net Worth is calculated for the rich based on the market capitalization of the companies they run and their percentage ownership but Net Worth isn’t taxed based on change in Stock Price just like we aren’t taxed if our house price increases but we haven’t sold it. Easy to calculate Met Worth for an Elon Musk because his companies are public and his ownership stake is known. Not so easy for Trump as it would be based on the market value of his properties.

You don't understand his point. The point is, if he was a good businessman, he would be making money, not losing it. Therefore, he'd be paying taxes. The more money a person makes, the more taxes he pays. Duh? So, from an economist's point of view, paying taxes is good thing.
