I was going to just let this thread die out but since you posted, I'll share the below message for a little bit and will remove later on. Sweetie would have sent this as soon as she got home that night. She never does this and would rarely say something like "thinking about you already...". Fantasy? I really don't know now. I thought it might have been too based on feedback from others but like I said, it suddenly feels more real now. We went on to have even more sweet texts that evening till this day which I won't share as they are a bit too personal.

Great advice, that’s so true, all of us know that the lady does see many other men, but jealousy is kept at bay cause in the time you are with the lady, I don’t “see” any other guys.
But the mental image or the realization in your friends example, that he was not even 1% more special has such a effect on a mans emotion.
Men’s physical needs are easily met, it’s the emotional ones that carry 10x the impact.

When you have 2 desperately “emotionally lonely” people they fill a void for one another. Hence the “connection” and mutually beneficial arrangement. The “need” comes first and then the vetting of other attributes and factors comes after. Trading off other attributes based on each other strengths/weaknesses. If you had a a better opportunity with another woman who met all your preferences and better than sweetie who would you choose? Duh. Trading up.

In HangDoggy case it wasn’t reciprocal. He admits this. He wanted to “believe”. He “projected” that the paid “exclusive access” arrangement was an entry point and conscious/subconscious hope that it may lead to something more than just sex. Men in general have a tendency to think sharing of intimate thoughts with a female equates to “she likes me.” See this all the time. Why they don’t do it with other guy friends because it’s showing vulnerability and weakness. Despite him being a veteran of this rodeo.

It’s acutely clear Hangdoggy is weak and vulnerable. To make up for it he seeks physical sex to simulate and fill his empty emotional connection vacuum.

I find it amusing that you feel need to convince everyone, your honey sincerely really likes you. Text Words alone are meaningless . Its action and true sacrifice under trying times is the indicator in a true strong relationship. If anyone been in a real relationships before should know this. Being there for each through the good and bad times. So far neither of you have anything material to lose. Except emotional withdrawal symptoms.

Who has more to lose and gain ? If the relationship sours or goes well? I guess it depends on what you value the most vis a vis other variables ?

You need to convince yourself. And grow a pair. Both of you need To Raise the stakes. “It’s puppy love” stage. Or just continue the fantasy. Whatever floats your boat.

I get the sense you are relationship inexperienced and immature despite being so called married and done the “rodeo” before. And at your late stage in life you discovered the need And importance for emotional connection. Or maybe you made poor decisions in your significant others past and present. Dude you are on a public forum. You should welcome the diversity of passionate voices “good or bad” with no emotion and filter out what’s acceptable and useful for you. Yes even ridiculing. It’s only when you hear a wide spectrum of views you can make an informed decision. The “tension” created from diverse and differing opinions produces the best decisioning outcome. It doesn't appear that anyone on here is a trained psychologist or psychotherapist, so if you were looking for Rogerian therapy, this is not the correct place. Instead, you received the honest opinions of others who feel pity for you and your situation. If we were douches (pun intended) all the time, our advice would head you down the path of getting fleeced for everything you have. Wake up, man.

We are not saying that you should dump her. Well not all of us. Just enjoy your time in the spa, even enjoy the sweet texts. Life is short, happiness is an illusion but that doesn't make it less real. Just don't go down the rabbit hole and ruin your life. You can have yoir cake and eat it too.
