How do the girls survive now?

yea you say they survive in lo season nicke,but a lot of girls i no usually save a little money which i take they make in hi season,so without the hi season they could be skint.i had never seen patong as quiet as it was after the tsunami,yea fair enuff new years eve picked up but it wasdnt busy mak mak.unfortunately this trip i dont no if it was just the affects of the tsunami,but i found this the worst of my trips,i like patong busyish for a party atmosphere,i was bored senseless most nights.yea xmas eve was good,new years eve ok,but the best times i had where when i was in bangkok and khon kaen.i hope patong picks up quick for the sake of everyone i no out there,but i am thinking of giving it a miss,at least for my next trip.its good to see the bm i have met when i get there,but i didnt feel like i had a holiday this time,let alone feel like it was xmas or new year.and worst (or best depending how you look at it),i havent had the post los blues at all this time.
am i getting bored of los???i hope not.i am booked up to return april 2nd,but looks like that trip for 3-4 weeks will involve bangkok,khon kaen,pattaya and samui.i have no plans for patong,but you never no.
i hope the business picks up soon.

BG's earn a lot of money by Thai standards but they spend it all, typically

10,000 to their family
35,000+ on themselves getting drunk, buying clothes, beauty salons etc

As far as I can see at the moment there are few BG's struggling, girls at my bar still have customers (although they say they dont) lots are going LT trying to hook up with guys who are here LT. I still see them running about on their brand new motorbikes, some dont bother to come to the bar because they have enough money and many many have sponsors or multiple sponsors. Lots of FL's come my bar drinking heiniken..........

Believe my guys dont fall for this crap, I reckon this is the new scam, Please can you help me I cannot earn money bacause of the wave

DONT SEND MONEY UNLESS YOU LIVE OR ARE GOING TO LIVE WITH THEM....its just money down the drain otherwise

On another note my observations of where I went last night Tiger Bars quite busy, Tiger Disco busy, Baya Beach busy, Di Di's soi sansabai busy, Banana disco beach road now open..........lots of new faces have been arriving

But look around Patong, there are so many places, so many girls! When you walk around some places every night and you begin to know some faces, some girls never seem to have customers! Then about Tig, she seems to have more worried about being a bad girl not sending money to her parents!

i went to her place. Running water not working. Except her BG-clothes, sexy tops etc, nothing at at all. Just some tapes, no gold....

If she spend money, I really wonder on what?

Here's a question for you guys....How many of you have had a BG buy you more than one drink whilst at her bar?
There was this one particular BG I spent a bit of time with and made it clear that I was not going to pay for any LT or ST...after a few days she just wanted to do it anyway...I mean she ate with me and I bough her a few drinks but what surprised me the most was on my last night there she was buying me drinks...I couldn't help but think who was actually paying for my drinks...which farang was sponsering her...anyways I had a great last night...and for the first time I actally could buy some food at the airport.

Not at her bar, but when we were out elsewhere, we were pretty much going dutch by the end of the week, which surprised me (a lot), but she was keen to buy a round. Of course, the reality is that you spend far more than her, but a relatively small gesture like that makes you feel good, and you end up spending even more because of it.

I dont know why guys find this so surprising... LOTS of girls will wish to spend time if you are under 35 - 40.. Lots will buy drinks or be independant (the FL's especiallilly).. Lots will look after you..

THEY ARE INVESTING IN THIER FUTURE...

I dont agree with Geespot's numbers for an average BG but sure some BGs can make very good money and some others just enought to survive.

Even girls who never seems to have customers usually make some money from occassionally off's and lady drinks, e.g. her friend have a customer and he buy drinks for her too. And girls often take care of eachother, e.g. share a room and help eachother out if someone dont have money for the moment.

I would agee though that on average most BG's make >20 or 25k per month once a few punters.. Couple of regulars..Perhaps a sponsor.. Lady drinks and salary all come into the equation..

Not many employed Thais earn 25k..

So they are big earners in Thai terms..

There is allways going to be an ugly duckling...struggling for attention...
I can remember back about 15 years ago...I was doing it tuff.
I had recently finished Uni, had no job, Bills coming from everywhere and no real people I could call friends....If I waited for someone to step in and help me, I would more than likely still be waiting. Instead , I went looking for work that was entry level(factory) , just so I could get my confidence up and talk to new people...Fortunatly that paid off and with the right connections I have now been employed by a large company(10y) and they take very good care of me.
These BG that are not as popular, can be only if they tried a little harder.
I know that when I'm in LOS, I always spend some time with the quieter ones, because they have so much to say once they get confortable.

Hi Robo, I like your strategy.

There are so many girls without the big attention but they are really great girls. I once had a young cute girl but she had maybe just a few customers in 6 months, she was very shy but since she knowed me she acted like normal and liked to joke and talk with me and so on. A really great girl, and she was also cute, but due to her shyness she seldom got customers.

Now she work in department store in Bangkok since she could not make living by working in MTB, but I still think she was a great girl.

I spent a bit of time with one girl from the Sailor bar (beach road) last time I was there in September 2004. I wasn't a customer, I just befriended her through another girl and because she spoke reasonably good English and wanted to "practise on me" we spent quite a bit of time together. She told me that the girls get half the barfine, in her case the bf is 200baht, so that's 100 and also 20baht for every "lady drink". On top of that was whatever she managed to get from any of her clients. This sounds like a lot, but she told me that she averages 4/5 customers on a good week, so that would be 100 for b/f plus, say 2 rinks 40 and then maybe 1,000 for an overnight if she was lucky, which would work out about 6k for the week, this equates to the 25k a month mentioned above, but doesn't happen all the time.

A lot of her money gets sent back home and I am led to believe from other sources that this is the case with a very high number of girls. Obviously there are some that don't and spend it all on themselves no doubt, plus others that are perhaps lucky in the looks department and can send money home, pay all the bills, stick some away and still have a tidy sum left over for shopping.

What you have to remember - there is no government pension scheme in Thailand, so if you work all your life and have no kids and no savings, then you will not survive. I think that a lot more money gets sent home or put away for a rainy day than we think.

But if you got along well with some of even one of them, wich treatened you well, without always thinking about the money, tsunami or not, you want the best for them!
