That is what i said, the money is send home! So I think that if thing are slower then normal, due to tsunami, there are two problems:

As money earned before, send home (in Tig case, certainly not on herself!), there is no money put away for today!

As she makes less, she cannot send money home for the moment, and feels bad, not to support her family!

Yes, those girls, if business is good, can make more money, then having a "normal" job! But lets be honnest, what is the real thing for most of them? Yes their familys do get better! Some of them are living in a misserable room, they have to spend every night with some farangs, they not always like, they are sometimes hurt, as it has been the case lately. They look to have fun, but mostely just hate the job!

The good thing about it, sometimes they got a guy, who IS nice to them and have a good time with. Some of them support them, when needed, but to say that EVERY girl has that luck is utopia!

But, also true, there are quiet some lazy girls out there too! Better, to drink and to open their legs, then to work 12 hours cleaning room, or whatever dirty job!

i think the best way to help is to maintain our own role, i.e. be a tourist, a more frequent one. I could help one BG or a few but only in a short period, a year maximum. Like most of you here, I have a family and could not let myself dragged in a girl for too long.

Retail Manager or very experienced 10k

Policemen 7k - 12k normal.. Chiefs and bosses possibly up to 20 or so but thats SENIOR !! Also police can keep a % of fines that they impose for another few 1000 and to put it bluntly most also have some T money paid.. You dont really get a crime investigated unless they get a payment.

Nurse 5k - 12k or so.. Senior maybee a little more but I am lead to believe this is a badly paid profession considering how much training and the hours worked (long)..

I agree with Livinlos and Geespot. The girls earn much more than someone who went to college and works 9-12 hous a day 6 days a week. Here's what I know:
Sales & Marketing manager 20k college degree, Chief accountant 25k many degrees, Bar manager 15k 15 years experience, Assistant manager 20k huge responsibilities for a Thai many many hours of work.
These people raise families, lead a normal life, most don't smoke and drink very little.
The BG's are less eduacated which limits them in Thailand to access to good jobs. Are they less smarter, NO they are just as smart but most didn't have access to higher eduacation but they want to earn big money, they are attractive and see girls come back to their village and build big houses so the allure is there.
Almost all of them could work in a restaurant, hotel, etc but that would require less money, more hours, and they wouldn't be able to drink and smoke at work.

So don't fell sorry for the BG, feel sorry for the guy whose hotel, restaurant was washed away. feel sorry for the fisherman who lost his boat.

Your judging this with western eyes and mindset.. That miserable room (very often with TV / DVD and VCD / Stereo / Etc) that may be on thier own or shared, may have a squat toilet etc.. Is probably LOADS better than the home that they have come from..

This country has and is evolving very fast from a 3rd world country to a more modern one. Go back to the village and look at the wooden shack she may have grown up in and shared a bed with 5 or 6 brothers and sisters, an outside toilet / washroom that is basically a barrel of rainwater etc..



Money.. Thats the real thing.. Money to buy status, money to assist the family, money to pay for unplanned children, money to get them out of rural village life.. If they can find a rich farang to take care of them and momma all the better but poor farangs rarely find love and lasting relationships with ex BG's. If they are just looking for love as you seem to belive why is it only farangs rich enough to support them are on the list ?? Of course even middle class westerners qualify as rich enough here.

My sister in law works in a shop near Nakhon Ratchasima and she gets 2500 bath a month. (she works 6 days a week). And she is happy to have a job at all.
Of course the cost of living are less than in phuket, but maybe it gives you an idea whats going on in real thailand.

There are bg with less money. But it is common in thailand that many people have little money. Nothing abnormal.

Well I never did send money to a bg, and guess I never will. Happy to hear that most of them are not doing that bad! Although I still believe many of them don't get customers that easy every day. And I am not that sure that all the girls have a choice. I heard stories (maybe just stories!), that girls are pushed by their own family to do this job! Again, girls I saw, did not have som much for them self!

Some guys here laughed with my motorbike story. Well this girl at least, did use the money for what it was supposed to. It did allow her to take a very good "normal" job (she never did work in the bar). Sad, but true. Some families try to push the girls to work in the bar. They just see the money, not the "work" the girls have to do. Or they don`t care about it.
And of course its not easy to find a "good job" in thailand for people with less education.

yea but very few girls get a customer every day of the month,many will not go with a man during there period so that wipes about 5 days off the month.and at any members bars i have been to many of the girls i have seen have gone days without customers,off course hi season is better but lo season i seen girls going a week without a punter.

I think what you say is very true. I know a scottish guy who lived 3 years long in Patong. He told me had to give his TG every day at least 1000 Baht to keep her happy and faithful. After a few years he was no longer able to afford this and they broke up. He told me this story at night when he was a little bit drunk while I was together with his ex-tg, who had started working again as a Fl. We talked for hours, he had a dutch mother and spoke dutch quite good. Could you imagine living together with a girl you have to pay everyday. I'm not talking about money for groceries and when your out of money the girl is off working again. He told me that she started "going to Tiger again" to earn money and that he was the babysit for her daughter most of the nights. Strange situation...
