I have a 'template' of sorts that I start with, and if the client doesn't seem to be enjoying themselves or I can tell something is missing, I will usually ask them what they like and go from there.
Respect is important both ways. I think most people can benefit from a lesson on how to behave on either side of a "No".
I don't think your request is outlandish - if I'm understanding what you're asking, it's part of my massage portion. Men carry a lot of tension in their glutes so I spend the most time between there and the upper back/shoulders. You'll find someone, I'm sure.
