Im looking for new ideas to build the client list by offering other services in addition to my regular Massage Practice... Easy Spa Treatments, etc.... Does anyone have any wisdom to share?

I've had great success by offering hot stone massage and aromatherapy treatments with my massages. Clients love the way stones ground and relax them - and I get to charge a premium for the stone experience.I charge $55 for a regular massage and $75 for a hot stone massage. If I do an aromatherapy treatment I'll give clients a choice of 5 blends to choose from, mix it with my oil or lotion in a 4 oz bottle, and give them what I didn't use during the massage to take home. I've actually had clients ask to buy my aromatherapy massage oil because of this.   "Why of course!"I charge $5 more for an aromatherapy massage.Good Luck! :

I have heard that there is quite a growing market , but I really have NO idea how to begin...My goal is to be able to offer an assortment of treatment options so my practice doesn't get stale.If anyone has any more ideas, I am all ears!

Angie,Lotus Touch makes a nice Seaweed Gel Face & Body Wrap that can be used with or without a compression wrap. I make it a sensory wonder by booking it as an 'add-on' or 'stand-alone' treatment that lasts 45-50 minutes. Prepare your table by protecting it's surface with a plastic fitted sheet. Layer a heating blanket over that, followed by a space blanket (thermal reflective blanket) and your bottom/top sheets and your heavy 'working towel'. Start by exfoliating the body (prone), using either exfoliating gloves (can be laundered/sanitized with your linens) or a body brush. I use the gloves, as I have another treatment that incorporates the dry brush. If you use the brush, you can give it to them as a gift after the treatment to nix any worries about how to sanitize without destroying the integrity of the boar bristles. Apply your seaweed gel. Assist the client in turning over. If your client is female, drape as you would for an abdomen massage, repeating the process with the client supine. I keep the client covered with the draping sheet, but replace the heavy 'working towel' with a hot bath sheet-sized towel that has been steaming in a large roaster (it's useful for more than hot rocks!) with a favorite detox blend of aromatherapy. Wrap your client up in their 'cocoon', and add any other comfort measures you see fit: eye pillow, small bolster under the cervical spine, etc. After they settle in, you can treat them to a peaceful facial massage & scalp treatment (especially if you are charging a premium price for this service!) When it is time to unwrap, turn off any fans in the room, as the client can get chilly after the moist heat therapy. Use hand towels from the steamer to wisk away any traces of gel (most should absorb into the skin). I always have a galvanized steel container with iced wash cloths available for them to cool off with (also useful placed at the decollete and on the forehead during the wrap).So... that was a little wordy, I know, but do you get the full picture?How about offering them a spa wrap to change into, and having them sit for a spell & sip on some refreshing cucumber/lemon water or a hot cup of herb tea (winter), as they 'come back around'. Use that time to encourage a sequence of future sessions or suggest another of your services for next time!  Let me know what you think. The total investment would be between $45-125, depending on which items you already own. I charge $45 for a seaweed wrap session, $35 if it is added on to a massage appointment. Hi.I just bought mine from K-mart or Walmart Supercenters. They cost about 3.95 there, and I absorbed the cost into the price of the treatment. I looked high & low for a deal on many websites & actually found that 3.95 was well worth the trip to the store. They have long, detachable handles, so they can be used with or without.I just love this treatment, and it's been very successful in my practice. I do alot of them right about now, as I promote it as especially great for spring (slough off the dry winter skin and stimulate the circulation, etc.)Jill/Sagetherapist

Hi Carole.The brushes I use for my Dry Brush detox Massage are natural boar bristle, and no, they are not super-firm. I chose this kind because you don't need alot of pressure to stimulate the lymph flow (if used as lymphatic body brushing) or to exfoliate (if done daily). I once had dry brush techniques applied in a Steiner of London Spa massage I had & I about jumped off the table. It was really scratchy... not pleasing to me at all. I have a brochure that I include in the parting gift that explains the use of dry & wet brushes, etc, and a reminder how-to, benefits, etc. So anyway, they're really not great as bathing brushes, but I do love them for my massage treatments!Take care.Jill/Sagetherapist

Great idea for the aromatherapy massage.I love it and will start to offer it soon. I offer  the set-n-me-free herbal face lift it is great and all natural. My clicnts love the effect and the special treatment. Add a hand and foot paraffin they just had a day at the spa right in your office. set-n-me-free has body wraps too check them out there great.

Dry brushing is basically what it sounds like.  Using a body brush, you take off dead skin and stimulate lymph flow by brushing the client.  That sounds really funny once I ;D type it!

Hi Jill!Guess what...I worked for Steiner!  The Greenhouse spa is owned by Steiner in the U.S., and yes, they did have us use these very stiff brushes.  I just used a light touch, but I think you are right about needing them to be less stiff.  You always use a very light touch when stimulating lymph flow...so a softer brush stands to reason.Thank you again for sharing all your wonderful ideas with us.  We're all in this together, and it's good to be in touch with people who are willing to share!Namaste', Carole

Hi Carole.I just want to make sure I didn't offend at all about the Steiner experience. I only disliked the brushes. Some of my greatest pals over my years worked in Steiner Spas at sea. They actually are very up-to-date in the latest spa trends. The last massage I got was a very cool mix of Tui Na, swedish & sports massage. I was truly glad that the therapist actually customised the experience for me & my immediate needs. Did you ever get the temptation to work for them at sea? They pay *very, very little* out there in the SofL spas. I think those guys & gals are 'doing time' and repaying the costs of their spa educations, etc (4-5 years, I hear!). Hi Jill,No offense taken at all!  I "served" only nine months there until I was sprung by Steiner closing most of their spas in the U.S.  They've actually closed down or sold a number of them.I agree that they offer great services, but they do gouge their technicians...paying them commission based on how much product they sell...which to me is unconscionable.  They also work their techs quite a bit with no breaks, and are very inflexible with the schedule.  The ocean spas are so much worse,  from what I've heard from corporate.Even the way they dealt with us when they decided to close many of the spas is terrible.  They wanted to just lock us out with no warning, but my manager leaked it to us a week in advance.  No severence pay, no thanks for your great work...nothing.I was growing weary of being their indentured servant, and I'm just glad to be rid of them.   They're a great spa to visit, but you wouldn't want to work there!  Hope I didn't offend anyone who does!Namaste', Carole
