Open sore on hand!!! HELP!

I have to work tomorrow and today I was pulling weeds in the yard and got a huge blister on the palm of my hand.  It is burning quite a bit.  What should I do?  I need to work, but I know it will not be healed by tomorrw.  Any suggestions?  I have been doing massage for 4 years and this has never happened to me before.  thanks

Sandy, it far from ideal but you should wear a surgical glove in this instance.  I regularly wear a finger cot when I cut my finger.  Once you get oil on the glove, it's not as easy to detect as you might think.  Sometimes, you need to use a bit more oil than usual so the client won't feel it.  It shouldn't be too bad.  I say error on the safe side.  You may not like it but it's really in your best interest and your clients.  The bigger question is if it hurts, will you be able to put pressure on it?  I don't think there's an answer for that one other than to use forearms, elbows and the like.  Good luck, Joe E.

I have had this problem in the past, as i like to work outside as well as sail. i hate losing my tactile sense,and i have used a great product called "Chimal" - it's a skin shield and works great as a protective barrier on the skin directly.I got mine at massage warehouse.com.Good luck!

I also use Chimal Skin Shield.  It's WONDERFUL for many things.  It got rid of those painful 'cracks' on fingers from the cold weather and prevented new ones.  That was amazing to me having spent 15 yrs. trying all kinds of products.  It's economical also.  It's not expensive and you only need a small bit (about 1/2 a dime in size).If the sore is large and open then the surgical glove, unfortunately, is the answer.

I use Helichrisium essential oil 10% diluted in rose hips seed oil to quickly heal up any cuts or blisters I get on my hands.  I don't know if it's a great idea to put it on open cuts, but I've never had a problem with it.  And I won't even think about doing yard work without gloves.

Hi- I also use Chimal--great stuff.  However, if it's big and/or open...sorry, surgical gloves are the only answer.  Although, I guess if it's on your palm, you could cut off the tips of the fingers at the first knuckle area.  That would give you better palpation skills.I know it's hard to get used to, but now your hands are your most precious asset.  Like a musician you must take care of them.  Wear garden, household, whatever gloves when you're working at home.  Try to be aware of your hands so that you develop a habit of protecting them and also remember to 'keep those wrists straight'.  That counts now both in and out of the office.I just thought....you can also try magnets on the sore to speed healing.  Look for superior magnets like Nikken, not just the beansey things they sell in the drug store.Take the long view........in 2 or 3 days it will be gone and you'll be back at work without the gloves!!

would new skin work?  It's a liqid bandage and I don't think it will come off with oil like Band-Aid liquid bandage dose.  I have not used it yet but I was looking into this for preventative measures.

The Nu-skin product does work very well.  I had an open sore on my left palm from digging in the garden (even with gloves on) and the Nu-skin worked really well, even with the use of oil.  I applied more pressure from the outside parts of my palm to protect the inner area.  It completely seals the area and does not come off with the oil being used.  You have to apply more of the Nu-skin product to the area and wipe it off right away to remove all of the product.  You'll just need a little of the product as it goes a long way.  Of course, if the sore is bleeding or oozing anything you wouldn't want to use it just yet.  My sore healed up quickly and is not noticable at all now.  Good luck in finding the right product!

I LOVE "new skin"...... I was cutting a surgical mask to fit my face cradle and snipped my thumb just 5 minutes before a massage..... cleaned it up, applied new skin and went on about my work..... I find that it eventually peels up and has to be replaced..... several times in a busy day..... but it's worth it.PS -- I'm very careful snipping face cradle covers now, no matter what kind of hurry I'm in.......Linda B. in NC
