I see the same (or hear about it more these days) in the UK, guys go and run pubs, pay crazy leases and within 3 months they're out of the pub, a lot worse off financially than they were before hand, I always think before, "He could not be a landlord", much the same as I can't, I play with computers all day because they keep you out of trouble generally (Gary Glitter etc not included in that statement)

Must a good rep to have, several times I have been aproached by farangs at nearby bars asking "how long have you lived in Phuket?"

In all honesty I would not call this a dream business well not for me anyway... I could only imagine the worries a bar owner must have . You need to be there every night to watch staff and BG's and then the effects of drinking almost every night not good over a long period.. I have spoken to many of bars when I have been in Patong most tell me, its goods when you first start out but after a while it becomes very tedious.. Besides the very few that make money, its the landlords that make the real money...

You can work and drink on the job if you are a light drinker.
