Sorry, but I'd rather leave the "imaginative posts" to you. If I got involved in that, I'd have the same problems as others. It's too much effort to remember all the details - much easier to just describe "what is", in which case one doesn't need to remember what one wrote the day before before adding information.

I have more than enough problems remembering the past without adding made-up stories to it that I've also got to remember. Fortunately, I take enough photos so that my "proof" of things usually takes nothing more than to dig out a photo of whatever I'm talking about.

What's strange though, is you certainly aren't one of the people who gives all the newcomers a hard time, so either you don't like the way I describe things, or you just feel very strongly the opposite way about things as I do - neither of which is a problem to me. The only thing that bugs me, is when you (or anyone) takes what I say out of context to mean something I had no intention of saying, but even that no longer bothers me as much as it used to.

Nice, you've finally said something I can agree with, whichever way you meant it. I've got no commitment either way on this topic. All I've got is my advice for others (ask the price of anything before agreeing to it) and for myself (why spend many times the price for a drink when I can pay next to nothing for it, and enjoy it more at the beach, where I like to drink).

I really don't have much of an "opinion" on 600 baht drinks; if the customer is happy, and the tout is happy, fine. If the customer is smart, he'll go elsewhere. As to your definition, when one doesn't want to commit to anything one way or another, there is nothing wrong with that.

(I'll agree with you that misleading people is bad if it's deliberate, but that's life. The tobacco companies have been "misleading" people for ages. A sensible person would evaluate things, and make their own decision, and hopefully avoid being "misled".)


Now that you and I are somewhat in agreement (I think), can we let this discussion get back to what the OP asked?

With pricing like that, no wonder all the local people I know go to Family Mart or 7/11, where a beer costs around 35 baht, about $1 US. I guess it's the same all over the world.

I never said I ONLY buy from 711 and drink on beach - what I wrote is that I prefer it, which probably has a lot to do with my not wanting to go to bars when there are other alternatives I like more. (Words like ONLY, or NEVER, and so on are usually just as inaccurate as Bush saying "You're either with us or against us".) As to what I actually posted "...and enjoy it more at the beach, where I like to drink", I would have thought you'd have understood what I meant, but I guess not.


As to why I'm on this thread, maybe you forgot what my first post said?

Yeah Kris. Thats it, you can either drink on the street which in any society that I know of is considered a 'lower' thing to do. Or drink in meeting place designed for drinking. Which is always the beetr option IMHO.

I was at Rawai a few years back taking photos for a friend of mine. You're right, prices were great, and better yet, everyone seemed so naturally friendly. I've wanted to go back there for many reasons, but somehow it never seems to work out.

My recollections were that it was clean, and foreigners were welcomed. This wasn't too long after the tsunami - they were hit pretty hard by that. I remember taking lots of photos of people building new fishing boats - the old way!

I wonder what it's like nowadays - it was so beautiful, maybe it's all being turned into concrete and condos.... :-(
