I don't sign them so you would only question them

Anyway I fail to see why I should justify anything to you personally
As I said all those on this forum whose opinions I respect already know exactly who I am

More important is luck, contacts and personality and, since I have not written any qualifications in these subjects, I cannot help you with any of them

In summary, removing all candor and rhetoric (and my final word on the subject) I would just like to say that although doing any Degree is laudable in my personal experience it is not always necessary

well i can honestly say i never thought my post would spark such anger so ive re-posted my original post and highlighted a few parts.

i wrote this post hoping that it would embrace that fact that we are different, that's why we have different titles ST/SMP but we need to work together to help promote our work and to make the public more aware of our industry.

So what if you have a degree or diploma, well done to you which ever you achieved. Those people who do rubbish courses will be rubbish therapist and will not last long in the real world.

But fighting, bickering and stabbing each other in the back helps no-one

like i said i wrote the post to help promote SM, i never said we were the same as ST, i am a SMP and want to be known as a professional therapist by the powers that be.

embrace and promote regardless of what you do

I'm not surprised at all, apart from the time delay between you first post and the flack afterwards. I've been on here for toooo long ;-)

I've often said on Hp that I'm happy to be a massage therapist and bodyworker, and it can be as sophisticated and skilled as any other therapy, if the practitioner wishes to go that way. So many therapies have overlaps, so it can be hard to come out with precise definitions. I have no answers to the ST/SMP quagmire (though definitions have been spoken about on Hp and syllabus links). Looking at your background, I would of thought that you would of benefited from being both a sports therapist & a massage therapist.

i can see that now, why we stab each all the time is beyond me, we are a caring profession, trained to help people get and feel better. this Attitude about who is better im really not about that. i dont claim to know or treat people better than any other therapist regardless of there qual.

all im trying to do is(although not doing very well at) promote our trade to the public. we all want more work and to recognized more. the more voices the louder we are and if SM & ST worked together then perhaps we would be able to work on a level playing field with other therapist

im not holding my breath. i was told today that physios are moving in a different direction away from hands on therapies, it will leave a whole for all of us if we work together.

we shall see

quite the opposite, Physio degrees are now reintroducing massage into the syllabus, in response to NICE report on LBP which recommended massage from appropriately trained therapists. Between 1 and 11 hours was common place before this acedemic year

regarding SMPs and STs working together, I fear there might be too much of a crossover of the basic skillset and therefore some will see it a competing for the same client base.

yes i fear you maybe right.

the physio i was speaking had been in the industry for some time so it maybe just his practice but if physios are training more into massage then it show even more that we need to fight together to stop physios pulling what clients we get away from us. ive not meet a physio that is hands on yet so i doubt they will start

but as SM & ST do have many crossovers then we should just be one voice and make a point of what our trade we do for the public. we will just be left by the other professions and thats not good for us

just to say how much I admire your optimisum, not only would I nominate you for the nobel peace prize I would def drop by for a rub when in coventry.
We all hold passionately held possitions that unfortunately all to easily decend into an unholy bunfight (quite how this all looks to the silent veiwing public I can't imagine).

having been a sports coach and personal trainer for so long i need my passion to flow out onto other so they will achieve their goals. im the same way with sports massage, it took me a long time to find this profession and now i embrace it, i wish we all could do the same.

to hear my clients say how freer they feel after having a treatment from me and when can they book for their next massage is very rewarding.

i am new to this business (only 4 years now) and i have a lot to learn, but it will not stop me being proactive and passionate about SM & ST, its the way forward regarding rehab, injury prevention, and damn right feeling good factor

I have been doing it a bit longer than you, and the realization that you can have such a positive effect on sufferers, getting them back to work, stopping an unnessecary operation,.........its a feeling that can't be beat

you hit the nail on the head there, how many other therapies like ours that can be a prevention to injury rather than a after effect. How many people will go to a physio once a month to keep supple or in condition, thats the benefit of SM it enables people to hopefully stay injury free
