What about the building that's behind you? (from the pic-taking perspective) ... when I was there in March it looked like a row of bars inside an arcade being fitted out.

What would a day out in Patong be without walking down the street and seeing someone on a broken ladder with a power saw cutting a beam that has electrical wires attached to it that are live all while the extension cord to the saw has a connection to the power board that's sitting in the rain.

Power saw fair enough but full on construction site ...Is that really the norm? I don't mean to sound moany but it just sounds horrible.Maybe it will be ok when I arrive but in fairness a lot of posts lately do paint a lousy picture.Maybe if so many people here wernt so quick to build up a picture of construction sites and empty bars then newbies like me would be keener to go there and maybe help the place get back to its great days and full hotels.

Ok, the development that is on the other side of the roundabout ( but same side) of LOS's "monstrosity" has had the Soi Lion words rubbed off and the building is For Sale, so some changes...area above also glassed in....

Just got back from Phuket and indeed the mamasan who runs the bar in Soi Eric opposite Showgirls (has a one of those big hammer the nail in the wood things on a stand in front) not only told us Soi Eric was closing but even went and showed us the architectural drawings of the new development that will be constructed after they close it.

The drawings were legit planning/dev drawings and from memory showed 1 long structure, double story, very modern looking with a long central roof? Just passing on what she said as she was sad that they were going to have to close next year?
