i disagree and can have a big impact on your holiday
i booked the Four Seasons in December and the main reason was the pool setting which ended up being a nightmare due to construction of new hotel next door
lesson learned and i will always make inquiries now when booking hotels for holiday in any country

Tilak has worked in Soi Lion, and they were all told end of August. Course, that's any day now. Can't ask her for an update as she's quit Patong, but she said she'd have to leave anyway soon if she hadn't decided of her own accord.

Not sure how easy it would be for a girl to relocate to another bar, I've no idea of the job market there - my guess is not that difficult, but what do I know.
Then if rumour is true that the soi a little bit north of Bangla on Rat u Thit has/is reopening, imagine there'd be work there.

Anyway, I think it's a real pity Soi Lion is shutting, it was one of my favourites too, but hey - guess it's "progress"

He's has mentioned several times that he is staying at the Summer Breeze Paulie so my advice is specific to that and why I mentioned the Top end of Soi San Sabai in what I said.....nothing going on in the lower section of SSS so I stand by my comment..there is some general street noise especially after the bars close OKD so maybe ask for a room at the back or middle if you are a light sleeper

As for a hassle free holiday, it is what you make of it. If you are going to run around looking for things that annoys you or doesnt suit you, like you do on the board, my advice is to stay home....
No, forget the last.. Go there and have a miserable holiday and write about it on the board so we get something and someone to laugh about....

I'd be shocked if the Bangla-scene disappeared for hotels. Surely the hotels must realize that the only reason Patong is such a center of commerce is because of the Bangla-scene. The hotels are smart enough to realize that if they displaced the Bangla-scene, eventually their investment would wither and die as tourism shifts to another Thai community, one smart enough to fill the void. I think the history of the hotel development to date in Patong shows that they don't want to mess with Bangla... Jung-Ceylon and the Millenium, the Holiday Inn, the Marriott, Patong Tower... they've all been built around Bangla but none of them have dared to build on that land. If anything, major hotel development might be the bread in a Bangla-sandwich - major developments to both the north and south but keeping their Golden Goose intact. I think it's far more likely that smaller businesses, like the kebab shop that was on Bangla, are going to get run out by major chains (like what happened with Subway). Those tailors, souvenir shops, and mom & pop massageplanetes on Bangla probably have their days numbered... Dunkin' Donuts, Sizzler, and Outback can't be far off.

But as far as land owners that have bars on their land.. Why take single digit million per bar when they can get 100's of millions for the land ??

I am always baffled by the prices that people seem to think are economic on Thai land.

As I have read in Rivo's TR the last days, he always missed the early mornings due to the dark curtains and woke up somewhere 2pm late afternoon 5555

So no construction concerns for him, rather more excellent destruction recovery ...

Hasnt anyone noticed the new building up Sansabai near the mini roundabout on the Summer Breeze side. It contains about 14 tiled bars , and has "Soi Lion" cemented on its edifice.
The blokes who moved Champions Bar to upstairs on the corner itself said the bars will all move there by November and the entrance to a Hotel would be where Lion now stands...

I had high hopes for you when you first joined the forum... but I am beginning to wonder if you might be related to Phuketonbudget... re-read your posts tomorrow when you have calmed down. You'll then see why so many people have turned... There are isolated pockets of construction. Calm down... the Summer Breeze will be fine...

Also just realised you have actually been to Phuket before... which has left me gobsmacked...

Ok I don't know one Soi from another but am getting seriously worried about all this talk of building work and closers.
Is Patong a good or bad idea because every second post is negative.At least last year in Karon I had good women good food and good accommodation with no stress.Is there a load of construction near the BB pool ???
Gotta say I am getting a bit worried with 4 weeks to go

I mean, if the Soi Lion bars all moved up there, the majority of the Bangla bars will still be on......well...........Bangla.
I would have personally thought that the whole "strength in numbers" thing would work here - Soi Lion is successful because of all the other bars on top of it - and vice versa.

Move some bars away - and you just dilute what you have. It doesn't make sense...does it?

Noticed a street tonight of bars - sure you'll all know what it is, but I don't. Moon bar is at the end of it, and it's on Rat u thit. All those bars are empty. Away from the "thick of it" is why it didn't thrive I wouldn't mind betting.

There are a lot of developments in Thailand that dont make a lot of sense.
Most expats give up trying to find some.
The only logic for the landowner is high rents...money.
I am hazzarding a guess that the Soi Lions land owner could get a lot more from a Hotel than the bars ( or a leasor who put in the bars) and so one of those 2 parties aquired ( or already owned ) the block on Sansabai and hopes that all the current individula bar owners will move there . Of course some will walk and be replaced by newbies...

The Soi you speak of is Soi Sukhumvit, which used to be fairly busy a few years back. This was when you could walk thru it and hit the back of Soi Sea Dragon.
Talking about sensible planning...the owner of that same Soi Suk for some weird reason, walled off the back so no punters could walk thru , and Suk died quickly thereafter!
