Nels am a year older than you and in the 30years I have been in Australia I have never really had any hassle from younger people (much like yourself by the sounds of it). Have lived in Melbourne, Cairns, Sydney and now Perth and on the whole, the people I have worked with and socialize (and also in the UK) have been top people.
I have met some great people in Thailand on my trips (both younger and older) and also the resident nutters (same same anywhere in the world) there is always a Village Idiot. I have also seen some funny sights with people trying to pull local talent, but that is what traveling and having a good time is all about.
I just tend to ignore people like they guys that the OP encountered and if they say anything I try and make light of what they say. I would rather be on my own and encounter something like what he did as I am the one in control.
If I had mates with me, well then that could be another story. I try not to mention things like that to people that I am with unless it gets desperate and I feel as though something is going to kick off.
What the OP observed could well have been local expats of that bar looking out for some of the girls that work in their local bar. That happens in my local here in Perth and anywhere else I have lived. Is just something that happens in life. If it is handled in the right way (and seems that it was). it should never be a problem.
Sorry if this off the OP's track but will be on a trip starting on the 24th April till the 9th May so hope to catch a few of you who are around at the time.
Will be in Patong (Mecure) for 6 nights, Surin Beach (Twin Palms) for 4 Nights and then off to Krabi (Queens Pavillion) for the last 5 nights and then back to Australia.
To the OP, ignore what has happened and enjoy your holiday.
