At the Jays home opener there were five reported fights in the stands. Wish I could give a written source but I can't because I heard it reported from mike Wilner on the Fan590.

Football in Britain originated from the different trades. Thus the dock workers would have a team and the leather workers would have a team and so on.

Disputes were often settled with football matches. So to them the history of the sport involves a lot more than what we have over here and with that comes the passion as well.

That I new. Anyway the bottom line is that it is dangerous to wear a visiting team's jersey in to one of their home games.

Guess my kids won't be wearing them anymore.

From a personal point of view i am a Sens fan.

So going to the ACC with my Jersey on is a difficult decision. Especially i a few years ago during the playoff wars that went on.

My rule was that if I went with a female I would not wear my Jersey but otherwise I would.

My thinking was that if trouble were to happen I would not want my lady friend to have to see that or be part of it. It was thing to put myself in harms way but not cool to put someone else there.

Having lived in NYC and gone to many a Yankee game I know exactly what can happen when you mix sports fans and alcohol in the right environment.

IT'S everyone's fault.

1. If you wear the opposing sides colors/jersey/whatever, you should know that there will be people in the stands that will take some form of offense and that some one or few of them might cross the line and harass you or physically harm you. I'm not saying it's right...just that you ought to know its a possibility and be ready to deal with the consequences.

1a. There are people out there that wear outfits in order to provoke a reaction. Neo Nazi's marching through a ethnic neighborhood. Obnoxious fans who wear their teams colors to the stadium and razz the home team. Women in short skirts and open blouses. Some do it on purpose in order to get a reaction and then cry about it when the reaction goes further than they wanted.

2. There are very few reasons in this world to physically harm someone or even verbally abuse them. I do not think that school/team colors qualifies for a good reason to give a beat down. As for verbal abuse...it's not classy but if one side has a right to express themselves through team colors or whatever, doesn't the other side have a right to express their reactions to it?!

Things change once we get older. I remember going with the gang to Quebec City wearing Canadians jerseys. We would get the you losers chants and a few middle fingers but never got into any confrontations. Some would get carried away once the beer gets involved but both parties always had guys that would put them aside.

I did answer your question.....and I cannot imagine myself wearing the uniform as Im deeply loyal to the Leafs, Jays and Juventus. I would not ever touch nor wear the Canandien, yankees nor Manchester jersey.

yet I suppose you are trying to make a point about endangering yourself by walking into a staduim rooting for the opposing team. As I said before, its very tragic and sports should be fun and entertaining. Like Tboy mentioned, it would be nice to know we live in a civil society where people respect each otherès feelings and boundaries but thats not the case. personally its sad and tragic.....

I hate to break it to you: the world is black, white and shades of grey in between. It isn't "blame the victim or blame the assailant" it is "blame the assailant and point out that some of the FAULT lies with the victim".

I have a feeling Peace is like so many other drivers who speed and get a ticket: they blame the cop. No, the ticket is the result of you speeding...just like the person in question was beaten as a result of his wearing of an opposing team's jersey, just like a woman dressing slutty in the wrong bar, just like someone wearing the wrong colour headband in East LA, just like flashing money around in a high crime neighbourhood.........No one forced you to speed, no one forced the woman to dress slutty, etc
