Tipping at a KMP/AMP

i tend to tip generously to anyone earning wages thru tips, not just working girls. i tip bc of who i am, not bc of who is servicing me.

that being said, generally, tips should be up to the individual. if you plan on returning, imo, its never a good idea to not tip. even on subpar visits, i leave something, especially if i'm a newbie at that amp. the last thing i want at a new amp is to be labeled as a cheap guy. plus, i tend to give the girls the benefit of the doubt of perhaps having a bad day. if it happens more than once, it starts becoming a trend and at that point i will prob stop seeing her. just make sure mamasan knows about your issues and usually they offer to compensate you on your next trip. if you're a gentleman in the way you handle your unpleasant situation, more times than not they will treat you with courtesy and make it up to you.

plus these gals all talk to each other and the mamasan about who tipped how much and what not. you may only be getting serviced by one gal but you're building a reputation with the rest of the shop. making a good early impression and maintaining it is much easier than to hurt your rep early and then try to rebuild it.

some people complain to others about tipping too much and how its going to drive up the prices for everyone else. i really don't care about that. i'll tip whatever i feel is reasonable. plus, i honestly don't think anyone throwing an extra 20 or two to a few ladies is gonna change the market price. also, paying an extra 20 bucks or so is not gonna break my bank account and it wont allow the gal to retire or anything like that but i don't think the dollar amount is what's important here. i'm just trying to separate myself from the rest of the average mongers. sometimes, its the little things that can score some big points with amp women.

furthermore, i'm not the kind of monger that is always looking to score at the lowest possible cost. imo, bargain products are usually bargain quality.

finally, i believe there is a difference between generously tipping and overpaying. 2 guys go to a restaurant, order the same things, and get a bill for $100 each. one guy pays a 10% tip and the other 30%. did one guy overpay? imo, no. both guys paid the same price for the meals. one guy just valued the service more and left a more generous gratuity at the end. if one guy had to pay a higher price than everyone else before tip was even considered, imo, that would be overpaying. but that's just my opinion.

all that being said, more money doesn't always = better service. it just increases your chances. just my perspective...

I tend to overtip when the service is great. When it sucks I tell them why I'm not giving a tip.

I like this approach. I am always looking for a good regular (you can have more than one, can't you?), so words speak volumes. Tips are important, but if you tip everytime - regardless of the amount - you set the precedent that tips are guaranteed and expected.

More to the point, I think Cantinflas' concept about the economy is correct - prices are going down across the board....and there hasn't been much movement (maybe a little, I've seen $180 and 175 mentioned from time to time) in price.

I do recall my first time at blueskys, couldnt suck on her tits b/c she said i was biting, as if i was jaws LOL. Worst part was, she rushed me out when I had 30 or so mins left. Low ball hard there. There was a good point mentioned before TIP now or no regular later.
When someone TIPS on his own accord, he is stating that he enjoyed the service, hence a repeat visit.
A forced TIP or one out of customary manner may not be conducive to a return visit.

Penny wise, pound foolish...
Return visits are more profitable than a meager $20 tip.

Note, some of the fellas tip so they can get better service on the return visit, but I am known to get what I need on my first visit.

Excellent points and definitely a smart way to play the game.
I would say, follow up is worth more than words though. If you make it to the spot twice they will believe you are planning to be a regular and if you carry one of your buddies in with you that makes it clear you are bringing in friends much more than "my friend FM sent me".

If you do stuff like this the tip is probably not so important. A regular customer is the best kind of customer to get for these girls.

P.S. I probably would never say I don't tip. It might be better to keep them guessing. They might think, "what did I do wrong?" and try harder then next time you see them. They might think, "oh he doesn't have extra this time, next time he will probably tip." If you say don't tip, they might even mention that to the other chicks and they might not be so eager to jump to you even though the mamasan loves that you are regular and appreciates you bringing in the friends. Better to leave the question out there I think.

Sometimes to get better mileage in the session its better to push the "I’m looking for a new regular spot/girl" than to push the “I'm a baller and a good tipper” angle. Sometimes no tip but I will be back works better than any $20-$60 tip on top of the rate. (works a lot better for the pockets as well)

I'm sure girls would much rather have regular clients than a good one time tip.

If I know I will be back sometimes I even st8 up tell them I don’t tip but I have a lot of friends who tip very well that I can recommend to build your business.

These are just my thoughts…if you are worried about how much to tip chances are your pockets are hurting and you need to concentrate on saving money than spending. If you how unlimited funds and don’t care how much you give away in tips chances are you wont be even reading this thread LOL

Again, it all comes back to a question of relative value.
Some industries get tips as a matter of course - you tip the valet who drops off your car, you tip the housemaid who cleans your hotel room, etc.

But these are standards, it's expected. Clearly the fact that there is such wide disagreement on this board indicates the lack of said standard for this industry.

But that's no surprise. Lots of businesses expect tips but it's not standard. Look at the tip cup at Starbucks or Dunkin' Donuts. Or the guy who helps you put the drywall on the roof of your car at Home Depot. Whether you choose to tip is up to you and usually dependent on what you feel is the relative value of said service.

Even where standards exist, the amount varies dramatically. I have tipped 10% to a wait staff that I felt was rude or inadequate (making sure I told the manager I was unhappy with the service), but I have also tended to tip 20% or more if the service was excellent.

The standard tip tends to exist in industries where the pay is significantly lower than usual. Wait staffs (at least when I used to do it) were NOT paid minimum wage - but a portion of minimum wage that was to be "made up" by tips which would get them back to minimum wage or above (thus incentivizing good service). Sky caps, if I remember correctly, make a portion of their salary from their tips as well. Having had the lovely opportunity to work as a "housemaid" for a summer, I can say that the minimal amounts left as tip were viewed as pleasant extras, since we were paid minimum wage.

Which goes back to the disproportionate response to my comparison of income levels. This industry happens to be one that can generate considerably more than most other tip-standard industries.

In certain service job areas tipping is the norm and a standard tip is understood. For service beyond the norm a bigger tip is offered.

A Sky cap gets a couple of dollars to check your bags.

A waitress gets 15% for standard service....

When I mongered my standard Tip for KMP was 20 to 40 good service
and 50 to 60 for great service, this was for a full hour session but for something quick I wouldn't tip has much.

If I was in a pinch and I was Jonesing I would tip less but I would make it up if I had a repeat session.

I don't think we have a consensus but even 20 is a good expression of appreciation that will get noticed. These girls probably know how much you can tip- they frequently ask what you do for a living or they might look at how fancy your shoes are. If you are rich and cheap they will know.
If you are average and even modestly generous I am sure it is appreciated.

If service was bad or rude of course I would give nothing.

I think alot of people would be willing to trade their life, if the price or situation was right.
If you do indeed do the same thing as I do, then you've seen this before too.
As far as I'm concerned, we all have our own difficulties in whatever line of work we choose. I'm not sure theirs are any worse than mine, just different. Would I want to trade places with them? I have no idea, it's not an option for me so I've never considered it. That said, I can think of many lifestyles that are much, much worse and engage pay scales that are much lower.

This isn't to say these girls have an easy life, or are getting extraordinarily wealthy, and I never said this nor did I imply it. Nor was I implying a lack of respect. I have a healthy respect for all people who enjoy what they do, or try to help others get some level of enjoyment in their life.

My view of tipping has been akin to getting a bonus at my job - if I do a great job, I'll get one. If I ask for it, I probably will be viewed poorly by my management.

Well guess what, we both do the same thing for a living.
I have studied hard and worked hard but I honestly can't compare my salary or anyone's with what they have to put up with. Being that I am a crazy guy and those other Knights of the Trident, the girls put up with alot of shit. I would not trade my life for theirs regardless of much they rake in. At the end of a rough day my ass does not hurt no matter what I've gone thru. If theirs doesn't hurt it's because they are desensitized after all the dick they have taken.

So they get theirs and I get mine, but yes we should tip only when a little something was given out of the norm.

thought I'd clarified my comments w/regard to tipping. I did compare to salary, but I feel that makes sense - relative values are what I try to figure out for a living. Basing their estimated income against mine, I was able to see what kind of income they are capable of deriving, and it appears to be quite good.

I could be wrong, of course...but when I do this kind of calculation I am rarely very far off.

Still, I agree - an extraordinary performance gets a tip. A beggar does not.

It's impossible for people to build up expectations in this way and NOT be disappointed. UNLESS they are severely deluded. And the press is very good at deluding people, as we well know. Given their role in getting him elected, they will keep the mania going as long as they can.

Still, politicians are politicians. Eventually, he'll screw with us. It's in his nature. I don't care if it was McCain who got in. It would still wind up being us getting it in the neck.
