I believe you're referring to the Mexican Corruption of Minors statute. It makes having sex with a chaste girl under 18 a felony. A minor is not chaste if she has had a child, worked as a stripper, or worked as a prostitute. It also exempts men who have an "honorable relationship" with a minor. (Meaning they are married to a minor or--with parental consent--are formally engaged to a minor.) Being chaste is not the same as being a virgin; a minor is still considered chaste if she's had sex with her boyfriend or lots of boyfriends. (It's being a mother or working in the sex industry that make a minor unchaste.)

Note well that the exemptions to the Corruption of Minors statue will NOT stop the cops from arresting you. According to one of my Mexican attorneys the cops in TJ regularly arrest both locals and Gringos for having sex with a minor.

If arrested you then fight the case from inside the jail. (Unless you can post something like $20,000.00 for bail.) Expect the attorney to want $10,000.00 or more to handle your case. Expect it to take 1 to 2 years to get your case heard. You're also likely to find it difficult to locate witnesses that can prove the minor isn't chaste (e.g. a stripper or prostitute). Also, expect the judge to believe the cops, not you and your witnesses.

In short, not only is having sex with a wrong, it's also stupid as it puts you in harms way. Don't do it. And pray you never do it unknowingly (because your hooker looks like she's 18) and/or you are falsely accused.

(For what it's is worth: In California one-fourth of divorces contain an accusation of spousal abuse or child molestation. Of course, most of these accusations are false, but divorce attorneys love them as usually the man will give a soon to be ex-wife whatever she wants to avoid prosecution. Sadly, more than one innocent man who refused to roll over and play dead has ended up in prison.)

I must admit that in Colombia everyone uses "tu". In Antioquia (Medellin, Manizales, Pereira etc) they use vos but they don't care if you tutear.

I think you are wrong on your "Latin American" that is the congugation for Vosotros which is only used in Spain for second person plural informal, "you guys". If you go to most Latin American countries they will you use tu. A few will use vos.

Thanks, NOB. Thanks, AmigoMio. I appreciate the help. It seems Spanish is just as bastardized as English. For the life of me, I can not understand people from Jamaica or Scotland. But it is the same language.

I was just in la Zona and when flirting with the chicas, I was still using "usted" and I think it actually works better for me. I then ask if I can use "tu" and they always say, "si". Hey, they know my Spanish is horrible. But I think and I hope they appreciate that I am trying to speak their language.

I haven't lived in Argentina for the last 18 months now and I wouldn't say they`re formal at all, Argentinians don't use the "tu" form though, instead they use "vos" which is also informal.
The only persons I used the "usted" form was both my mother and father in law but everyone else, I addressed in the "vos" form, the Argentinian equivalent of "tu"

Thanks, NOB. I have to change my mannerisms in this respect. I always start out with "usted" and then ask if I can use "tu." But you are right. They usually look at me a bit funny. (But that is from much more than just my horrible Spanish.)

However, I am generally more formal in all my interactions with individuals than the average person. I have had folks from South America say that the Mexicans are far too informal. I guess I would be more at home in South America. But don't you, NOB, live in Argentina? Do you find it more formal than Mexico?

Never use the formal "usted" "su" etc when addressing a puta, you never speak to a working girl in the formal "usted" form, ever.

"dar me" should be "da me" (informal command) or "de me" (formal command).

"da me" o "de me" is a bit strong, even though you used "Por favor."

I would say, "Quisiera (Key-see-era) ver su tarjeta de salud, por favor."

It means, "I would like to see your health card, please."

Or "Puedo ver su tarjeta de salud, por favor?" (The "e" makes the sound of a long a in Spanish in puedo - "Pooh-aaa-do")

This means, "May I see your health card, please?"

The Health card looks about like a credit card, and it has her picture. There are no health cards issued that say she is underage. Many of the chicas start before 18, but they get the card in another name other than their own. If she has one, then you are not responsible in Mexico.

If you are concerned about underage, then I would not patronize the girls on the North East corner of Coahuila and Constitution. These are the group that dress like street girls. I don't know any of them or their ages, however they act like 14 year olds all dressed up. I believe they are all with the same man, as I have seen them pass the phone around to talk to someone.

If they look very young I would ask to see their "health card" because even if he were fake. You could make a pretty good case that you verified her age as she has an official document that she was over 18. Besides if she has a health card that's the only ID they would probably check.

The SGs that scare me work on Constitution across from La Gloria north of the alley. Lot of those girls look young, and many of them are wearing that school uniform.

You are absativaly right. If you can't tell they are at least in their 20's, I say pass, but agains lets play devils advocate. I am from Cali, If someone showed me Florida ID or a Mexican ID I couldn't tell if it was real or fake. Any young girl not of age can get some ID from her friend/relative and can you say you can tell the diff? I can honestly say I could NOT. So ask all you want. I still go by looks and if they seem to young for fun, I say pass.
