Yes! And all the more reason to avoid getting in the situation in the first place. I just hope people read this and take heed before they travel and know the score if they are inclined to pick a fight after a few beers. If you think you can handle it with a few beer muscles inside you then think again............I hope!
It's been a while since I have been in the UK but we used to have spates of what they called "Paki-Bashing" - Gangs of white kids jumping all over lone Pakistani kids - Very brave, now, the shoe is on the other foot and it's the Pakistani's ganging up and jumping all over any lone white kid they find. Normally no alcohol or no more provocation other than having the wrong skin colour.
I guess the Thais are quite happy to gang up on the Farang if they want to.
I must admit to seeing very little 'un-provoked' violence in and around Phuket and there has normally been a 'reason' for why some tourist has taken a kicking and ended up in hospital.
