I found heidi's site, heidi sez lots of stuff. Kind of hard to really find out what the gist is, the site is that bad.

I'd rather work for R&R or Stress Recess than Heidi and her FFFFFFFFFFF.

I have worked with Heidi's many, many times while living in the South. Basically, it's a chair outcall service for concert venues. I did chair massage backseforum.xxxe for many bands from Tommy Lee to the 'Down on the Mountain' Bluegrass Tour (the bands that performed on the "Oh Brother, Where Art Thou" soundtrack). Yes, you would be surprised at the number of musicians that want chair massage backseforum.xxxe. The next day, you call her and tell her how much you made and she asks for a certain % (which is low in my opinion).

The downside was she (or her secretary) usually calls the day or the day before the event. YOU take the money ($1 per minute) and sometimes the bands didn't want chair massage because it's offered (at their request) at every venue that can supply one.

The upside is that when you make money, it's pretty good. For example, once I made $500 (including tips) and all Heidi wanted from that is $70 and I was only there about 5 hours. Also, if you enjoy some of the bands, you get free backseforum.xxxe access and to hear the concert for free as well!

I personally liked Heidi (although some I've heard had problems with her). Mostly, I made good money but there was one show where I made $20 in 5 hours, so you just can't tell.

It isn't guaranteed, but if you got the extra time and enjoy doing chair massage, it may be just up your alley.

I posted a quickie as I was running out the door! I started researching for several reasons.
1. lately i've noticed a surge in recruiting therapists for what seems to be on site franchises (for lack of a better term) and/or lmt networks. "spa chicks on the go", heidi's fabulous fatigue fighters ffff.... and so on
2.I travel, good to have options...
3 I'm relocating next month...
I hope this validates my origional post

I'm interested in hearing other mt's experiences, pro's/cons, recomendations and advice.
I wonder about legalities and quality control. Some places were ready to send me out without ever asking for a resume, references or even proof of school! How scary is that? Get's ya thinkin'!
I'm open to any and all opinions.

Someone had just e-mailed me about my past post on "Heidi" so this was my response to them... and yes, no resume required... as well as other things see below... as far as I was concerned it was my you know what on the line not hers...

I am going to be very honest with you, even though I don't know you, but hopefully I am sticking up for all massage therapists out there. If you also noticed on that post, I took the conversation off line for privacy. The reason being, I worked for a woman named "Heidi" no last name, only a phone number. She never explained the "deal" to me previous to the event. I was fresh out of school and not licensed yet, but able to work in NJ (no requirements at the time), not NY. I did one event for her in NJ, that was my first and last, due to the disrespect she had for her therapists. She wanted me at the event at 5 PM, a place that was over an hour away, didn't tell me that I was only expecting 1 client who I massaged on my table for 30 minutes, I ended up getting 2 other 30 minute massages. I then waited till the concert was over, more than 5 hours later, not knowing that I shouldn't have stayed that long, had to then drive another 2 hours to get home because of the horrible road conditions. She then continued to call me repeatedly to get me to work at venues in NYC, which every time she called I told her, I don't have my license and will not be working anywhere in NY until I do. She then wanted a huge perceneforum.xxxe of my income from that 1 event, including what was tipped beyond her $1 per minute rate, which is well below the going rate in NYC metro area. I ended up making about $5-10 per hour after her cut. So in the end, never deal with this woman and hopefully she has realized that she needs to lose my phone number.

Oh and another problem I had with her, is that I needed to get a babysitter, and she kept wanting to know at that point in time if I would do the job, I would tell her this, call her back, and sorry we got someone else to do it... especially when she would call the day of, or the day before... and expect me to be available at her beck and call.

My suggestion is, go to http://www.amtamassage.org they have a locator service for massage therapists. Type in the Zip code of the venue and limit it to find someone who does chair massage. Call the therapist directly and make a deal with them, believe me you both will be a lot happier in the end. Don't work through one of these services unless you have been referred to one of them and then even so be leery.

Wow. How awkward for you! I'm suprised someone can get away with running such a business. I guess if there is such a lack of regulating, you can pass anyone off as an mt. How strict are the laws in your state, as far as accredited programs, minimum liscensing requirments, and hiring processes? What did u think about the massage school you went to?
I went to school in SF. It was wonderful and halfass all at once! I probably was too at that time. ha ha..
So, what type of practice do you have? Do you do much outcall chairwork?

I'm quite happy to find out you are genuinely interested in finding out about this topic as an interested MT, and sincerely apologize if my response hit you poorly. I would have to use all my fingers, toes, and most of my winter glove fingers to count the # of business/product owners that have come on the board saying "Gee, has anyone checked out the new Flimflam Massage Oil with genuine Dirty Sock Aromatherapy Concentrate? I hear it's great!!!" It is, 99% of the time, the first and only post they make on the board. (StressSolutions & Seforum.xxxgnant have also been around long enough to see dozens of those kind of posts, as well.)

That's why I invited you to post an introduction of yourself in the introduction's section, so we could see that you are an actual MT and not one of those said spammers.

I hope you get the information on this company that you are seeking and continue to join us in this community of MT's.

I live in NY, but work in NJ. NY requires a license, 1000 hours plus exam. At the time, I had the National Certificaiton and 600 hours. NJ is only starting to get the idea that they need regulation on Massage.

Heidi didn't care as long as you had hands and the equipment. Because she was annonymous as far as I knew... a first name and a cell phone number. So nothing could be traced back to her. I actually sat there for 2 hours waiting for no one to come because they had me set up in this back room with no posibility to walk by.

Now I primarily do pain relief work, and only use my chair when absolutely necessary. Mainly for demo's and health fairs. I prefer not to use it to make money. I can do 8 hours of table massage vs. 1 hour of chair...

Your profile says you are in NYC. How did you get your NYS license? Not a single school in CA has a 1,000 program, and no one in the bay area is over 700.

While I think this is a very interesting question that might have an interesting answer, since kezza hasn't been here for the last 5yrs, we may have a bit of a wait... :undecided:
