Tipping a bartender a dollar everytime they pour you a pint can be ridiculous. You can give less. It depends. If they serve you as soon as you walk up to a crowded bar is another criteria. If they pour a round of pints I may give more. When I order a mixed drink I try to watch the pour or have a taste before I tip. Some bartenders pour a strong drink and are tipped accordingly.

thats changed a bit from when i was employer years ago.

the top rate use to start a lot lower than that.
but for a second job the top rate was started automatically unless you got a letter from your accountant to vary the amount, ie; to say that you were going to come in at a lower bracket by the end of the year,and so then you might be paying 37c in the dollar for your second job PAYG.

it is a bit over the top

in being critical, let me also say the staff always does a great job in making sure you have your drinks and are always very friendly. especially in such a busy bar
they just need to learn to back off a bit with the requests. or be told not to do it so much

Which begs the age old question, is Thailand cheap? If you pay 110 - 120 baht for a Heineken in Soi Eric then that's nearly £3 for a small bottle.

In my very limited experience of Soi Eric and Mai Thai Bar I noticed the bars on the right hand side of Soi Eric as you walk down from Soi Bangla were more busy then the bars on the left. I also noticed that bars after Mai Thai on the right seemed to be less well populated.

Haha, had to learn quick on my recent trip to your neck of the woods. Just seemed so Alien to us leaving a dollar on the bar every time we bought a drink. FFS , all the bar tender had done was to reach in the fridge, pick up a bottle and take the top off !!! Why the fck does that deserve a dollar 555555

Well its either Thailand or going to the same pub and same nightclubs that i do every month.. all my mates waste there money on beer and their cars.. which i have been doing for the past 3 years, spent nearly £10,000 on my car which i've now lost interest in so have alot of spare cash and will be selling parts to make monies back. I could happily arrange a holiday with some mates for my Birthday to Shagaluf/Malia etc etc But that just doesn't appeal to me after going to los.
Yes i understand why you feel its unusual but i've met people my age out in Thailand they love it, and wouldn't want to go anywhere else.. everyone knows its an addiction. 5555
Even people i've met twice my age told me they wish they had discovered los at my age..

I think it's the next bar down from MTB - there is a girl in there who wears glasses and look as though she may be Indian. They are relentless in there but I go in because the girls are funny. I get round the problem by choosing one girl to play a game and say if she wins she gets a ladydrink. If it's not busy the other girls can't help keeping up the banter and joining in so you get all the attention for just one ladydrink. Bargain.
