Sound will be open to 04 normally but due to Asean meeting bars have to close 02, same Bangla last night so it was not a Sound thing.

I liked the opening last night, good music and mc, and a good crowd. If and when a second lift is operating it should be ok instead of queues in and out.

The onerous wrk permit regs and costs of legal international DJ's will be hard to pay for on regular bar priced drinks.

Of course DJ's will perform based on interest in venue / club / promoter / fun / prestige / etc etc..

But times your numbers by a multiple of 10 for names.. Local boy talent in the UK (with a name) can pull that.. International touring or 'names' are at a totally different level.

A lot of the clubs and bars in Manchester are doing this aswell, having a saxaphonist playing next to the DJ. Trouble is all sounds the same after a while. Must be the current in thing....

I am definetly not their target demographic. I come to patong to get away from this crap. I can barely stomach FBI and Tiger disco enough to pull some sweet FL's. Every freelancer in Patong would have to be in there to drag my ass in.

house, techno, trance are the themes..hip hop - don't care for it

beers starts at B170 for a singha to B290 for a kingfisher..cocktails starts at B200 for a gin tonic to B390 for a champagne mix.. Dont want to pay it.

they have a strict dress code..smart casual, slippers & singlets are not allowed..Mickey Mike is the guy to see... I'll wear my magic trousers when I feel like it.


I'll be at the open air beer bars, snuggling with a couple honeys, drinking my cheaper - but not too cheap drinks.

I don't think the drink prices will be too much of a problem, they aren't really trying to attract the 7-11 crowd.

But thats the point.. Paulies askign how he gets the talent, based on the kind of numbers the place can pull.. Compared to the money other places can pull..

Oakenfold etc is 100k plus for NYE or christmas.. Thats why Gary Gecko is always interesting pulling mega talent out to Gecko in Bhoput with Brandon, Joe mills, etc etc etc.. Doing it for fun factor..

Acts will do a lot for promoters they like, but name DJ's dont fly round the world to perform for 1000 USD a night without a lot of other motivations.

Here are the answers...

The lift belongs to Jungceylon and they promised they will repair it very soon. I was very disappointed they couldn't manage it before we opened.

We had a cool Jazz singer, a saxophonist, House music DJs, Hip Hop, Mash-ups.

Our regular line-up includes 7 theme nights with 7 distinct styles of music. Check out the theme nights (posted earlier) or on the websites for choose whichever theme suits you.

We have two rooms, Mini-Sound in the reception area will be playing a different style to the Main Room.

The early closing hours were forced upon us due to the ASEAN summit. Apparently, Asian political leaders in Laguna area might be upset if people are dancing and drinking... 15km away.

After the summit finishes closing times will be relaxed (we hear).

Thanks to those who came down and made the event a huge success.

I couldn't agree more. I went to Club Lime once. There wasn't one other customer in the place and they wanted too much IMO for the cover charge for a bar that nobody goes to. They need to do something if they want to attract customers...but of course they probably won't. This low season looks to be worse than last year. I've been out and about in Patong the last few days and it looks like a ghost town in many areas. They're going to have to double the cover charge if they want to make any money.

i was at Rain when Paul Oakenfold played( everyone was excited, i didn't know who he was because not my scene) and that DJ Dan also played there
i know that they have warm up DJ's but still a good gig

I am 27 years old and I personally cant stand loud dance clubs. They are always expensive and you have to yell at people to talk. But the girls seem to like them so I usually just go there after chugging a 25bht drink from 7/11 and them pick up a FL and head for the door.

Still stand by my $1,000+ statement, I'm sure some of the big boys can charge 10 times that, mid range names 5 times that but then as explained there are allowances they will make, friendships in the game and if you have a number of venues for them to play at, hotel to put them up in etc....

The $1,000 was a starting number btw, the guy I used to know who lived here but Dj'ed in Japan was on a pretty good deal, first class flights, top hotel and IIRC $2000 for a night, but he was one of the most famous DJ's in Japan with his own TV show earlier in his career at one point.
