Quiet in Patong?

The Orient Thai cancels its daily flight from Hong Kong to Phuket until Feb. So stupid to do so. Anyway, as I said, I would come in the last week of Jan to show my little support. Cheers and long live Phuket.

my gf just drove down from Bangkok yesterday and returned after 3 hours stay in Patong. Didn´t want to stay one night. Drove down 1000 km and back 1000 km in one day and one night. Wanted only finish room. Another girl from her village has already moved to Pattaya.

Beside from the fact, that it is now quiet in Patong and less business, I think most of the girls who stayed during tsunami still have some shock and panic. They feel not at ease in this place with all the ghosts of the dead still waiting for some monk praying for them to set them free. For an outsider, it looks nearly perfect again now in most parts of the Andaman side of Phuket, but thai people will 'have to build a lot more of little ghost houses' until they feel good again.

I can not compare, but it is like sleeping in a cemetary.

I gue´s the best way to get to Phuket from BKK is by plane but is that option still a problem ?? Worse is if you can´t even go there by bus/train!
It looks like media some time like to tell us that whole south of Thai is "closed" :sad:
I know that´s wrong but how to get to Phuket the best way these days ??

This is indeed the problem! Not only tsunami, but the dead that haunts the living! Difficult for some people tho lay on a beach, imagining the corpes that were floating there some weeks before...

But in Normandia, during the end of WW 2, many poor young lads killed on the beach! Now people don't even think about it!

It's indeed the opposite of demand and supply theory. But I must admit that Thai people are quite intelligent and their concept is good, to do it the other way round. Tourists come there and they have NEEDS and Farangs are supposed to have loads of money... so why not double prices.

I hope the situation will be more back to normal in March.

There are hourly flights from ThaiAirways BKK to Phuket, as well as other airways like BangkokAir. This is the fastest and most easy method, about 2500 Bath one way.

You can go by bus, this is the most cheap method.

You can go by car and drive yourself. The road is good, mostly highway, about 1000 km, that is nearly 8 hours driving. When I was going it up in November, there were some parts in repair from monsun, but no traffic jam. There are two possibilities, you can drive SuratThani and make the bend there or you can go over Ranong.

i agree with you gregor, a lot of girls will not come back to patong area because of all the dead peoples ghosts (as they see it)they will maybye work in pattaya instead--i myself wouldnt like to lay on the sand with the thought of an unrecovered body buryed in the sand below me --it gives me the sh-its thinking about it now!

I don't know if they have canselled flights to Phuket or not, but we flew with Nook Air on the 5th of December and paid 1500 bath one-way. I bought the ticket at the airport the very same day. You'll get it cheaper still if you book by phone and pay at 7eleven. Further discounts will be given if you book ahead.
Can't quite remember how many flights a day, but I think it's at least 6. Correct me if I'm wrong.

She went back coz all her stuff is there. Shes getting all her stuff moved this week to bangkok and going stay permantly in Bangkok until the british embassy opens again and then get the visa sorted.

I did ok with Air Asia, but was lucky!

My bg flights delayed twice! 3-4 hours! I think just annuled!

Thanx for info. ... my thoughts was that maby police/goverment stoped people from going to Phuket right now , no airplane , road blocks etc. !
At the news around here it seams like Phuket is "cut off" for tourists right now , i read this forum many times a day so i know there is a "few" hanging around and that Phuket needs tourists more then ever now , i will try to join as soon as i can !
Maby travell along the coast and stay a day or two in Hua Hin ... travell abit futher , stay at some other place and finaly hit Patong after a few days ... OR .. stay one or two days in BKK and go by AirPlane directly to Phuket , havn´t desided yet
