Seeing as hardly any Irish people actually work in Irish bars in Phuket and not much Irish people go there it really isn't a surprise that some aren't doing well. I ventured into to a few while I was there and apart from the dark decor and food and maybe a Guinness tap there's not much actually Irish about them, aside from the staff wearing green.

I asked a member of staff if the all Ireland hurling final was been shown and I got a blank look, this would have been on in any Irish bar worth it's salt.

They also seem pretty pricy compared to the competition.

This makes me kind of sad as I like Scruffy's and it has good memories from my first ever trip to Patong. Wonder if they'd let me buy all the internal bits in the bar so I could recreate it in Lala? used to know the owner, could be a good idea so I can live in the past everyday!!!

It might have Irish owners but all of the staff were Thai when I was there, having said that I was only there once 555. Nice place but somewhat out of the way.

That will be a shame if it does go as i like that place and the Staff and Neil and his band.

I remember when Molly Malones (their other bar) opened and then when it moved down the beach to its current place next to McDonalds; they were good times and many a good night in there.

Not to keen on the owners but the staff are really nice.

What did you expect. In a German beergarden in Thailand the staff will be Thai also.
You need a working permit as farang to work, besides what wages would an farang (Iris)h waiter want.
I also found Irish pubs pricy, but suppose importing Guinness or Kilkenny isn't cheap either.
