EuroGirl, we will never be able to tell what you are comfortable with cause we dont know how high or low your threashold is.. I know that living in Holland with my Thai wife she would get bitter looks and sneers sometimes when we were out clubbing.. I dont know if that was cause she was Thai, or if it was because she turned heads (or if it was cause she was Thai AND turned heads if you understand me).. People would rudely proposition her and bluntly offer her money etc.. Now if some people have that kind assumed attitude to Thai women I dont know if you assume when there are a bunch of out for the night flirty TG's around that they are 'on the game' freelancers cross a lot of lines and will often be on the pull as much as at work..

All I can say is visit.. Go out and enjoy and see how you feel.. Shame its heading to lower season as you will meet more expat or regulars here who will all probably have a TGF on thier arm.. That might bother you ??

Sticking to Banlga fronted bars rather then the offshoot sois will have less BG influence.. Dragon and Tiger with the right attitude for a dance / club situation.. Ex Pat haunts like bars on Nanai or places like the Winchester for a quiet beer (though the winchester has lost TJ recently and taken a turn for the worst IMHO).. There are places to go but Nightlife in Patong is one that I think may give you problems..

Have you considered Samui ?? Is it possible to choose your location ?? If so Samui has most of the amienaties of Phuket but a much less in your face scene.. Clubbing there actually resembles clubbing as it should be and the expat community there has a nice stable life.. Its the kind of place that may fit your desires or style much more..

This may have already been said cause I skipped the last page of posts, but I think all she was asking is if there is an alternative to the BG bar scene.

I've been to Phuket only once myself and totally enjoyed the bar scene but at times did find the BG's too over-whelming. We met a couple of German girls in Karon and brought them back to Patong for the night (where me and my buddies hotel was) and we had to look long & hard to find a bar they would be comfortable at. We ended up at Scruffy Murphy's and had a great time.

I think there is a great business opportunity in Patong for a club that caters to vacationers who are not looking to pick up a BG. Just out to pick-up like we do back at home.

I am trying to get understand how anyone who has spent time in Thailand (3 months I seem to recall reading) can still be unaware of the cultural nuances that do indeed distinguish between the western stereotype of prostitution and the situation viz-a-viz bar girls. The distinctions may not be vast or perhaps even obvious to some, but they are there, and be they ever so subtle they are real, and they are significant to many; both Thai and 'farang'.

Firstly I am not hard up. I actually have pulled everytime I have wanted to and been hit on even when I do not want to, even by white euro guys surrounded by the thai girls.

I do not agree that the selection process is reversed, I think the selection criteria is different. The guys I have been hit on by that are white tend to be young, very good looking, and would have no troubles at home. In Europe and america looks play a bigger part, money and opportunity a smaller part, here it is reversed.

I also meet Thai guys and am VERY into them but want someone who is not after money and not on the game as I am petrified of disease here. I had an ex-Thai boyfriend when I lived in Dubai so that is also not a problem. For me it is not the competition thing, I do not feel out-competed in the least, most of the men that are with the BGS are not men I would pursue anyway and most that are vulnerable to being pulled by them are also not guys I would be interested in, so that is not the issue. The big thing for me is going out and having a good time with like-minded people and not having to be caught up in the whole scene. Let the BG's and hookers do all they want and let the guys do all they want, I am for live and let live, but give me a place where I can hang out with people who are like minded, I do not mind if they are Thai or European...or even yanks for that matter. I think I am being misinterpreted in what I am looking for and why I am looking.

In Patong you can have a good night in Scruffy Murphy's (just to mention one place). It's at the beach end of Bangla Road.
I'm sure there are a few more places in Patong where you won't get any hassle - perhaps some of the most experienced BMs can name some.

As for just hang out in a bar, it is just to tell the girls you are not interested... It works for guys, so why wouldnt i work for you.

But i think your problem is difficult to solve.. My advice is to stay home instead, or go home to your home country so you can go out and chill like you want....

Yes T2 is still open.. As well as Jammin / Timberhut / Etc you have the new Fantasaia, this cateres to a Thai audience and is a bit more Hi So but IIRC the (stunning) dancers were available for high priced) BF.. Not that you would notice if you werent looking but just goes to show that even in the Thai side of things the scene is there.. Its hard to say you love Thai culture and nightlife without acknowledging that its there..

I really thing you (EuroGirl) would enjoy Jammin etc a lot with the exception that there are not many cute young western guys there.. Despite your assertions that many young guys are not into the scene here the evidence suggests that these young western guys tend to gravitate to the nightspots with available asian girls in.. Just a look around the non P4P clubs in Phuket town shows a very very low farang head count (sometimes I have been the only farang in T2 / Jammin) and even then are often there with thier TGF..

Let me just say that I dont think anyone jumped on you or your comments due to you not liking the scene... I think people reacted to comments like 'Fat old farang' and 'BGs having more **** inside and out than a LB' etc.. Those kind of comments (however you quantify them later) are a bit derogatory and its difficult to not percieve them as being made b someone with a chip on thier shoulder..

Also one word on the STD thing.. Everyone knows STD's can be got anywhere, I have had a few doses from farang girls and a couple over the years out here.. Theres things you can still get even with condoms but the additional fear ascibed to Thailand is not totally deserved..

Here on Phuket in prenatal screening of women 18 - 35 (surely the highest demographic out there in this environment) last year the HIV infection rate was 2.5%.. IIRC that is approx the same % rate of infection for every person in NYC..

Get practacing your Thai and pay the bar tab for a Thai guy when you get here and he can show you round the Phuket town that wont have much if any of a scene..
