It really shouldn't matter what someone else is willing to pay. Shouldn't it be up to you, the customer, as to what you're willing to spend?
Others might be able or willing to pay more or less. That's beside the point. If the accepted amount is 1000, then there's no need to pay more unless you want to, nor should you expect to pay less. It's YOUR holiday, so do what YOU feel is correct.
On the other hand, if 1000 is the accepted amount, why bring it up at all? Don't even ask, and simply give that as a present the next morning, maybe (hopefully) as a gift, not as "payment".
