While i was in patong in late Feb. on a sat nite during the elections all bars were closed around Bangla rd area & restaurants that we went to were not selling alcohol as well,
but one "bar" along rat u thit rd, (without naming it) across from the Royal Paradise Hotel , was openly selling alcohol & many ppl were in there being the only place open that night, while i was there the MIB came in spoke to a bar staff for a minute then left, i was still there nearly 2 hrs later & bar still open , i thought how can this place be open when others can't ?? but i had my suspicsions why.

next day i was told by a bar owner that this place was more than likely "lining the pockets" of the MIB. to stay open

I think that everyone is entitle to have a power of choice on when to go back home! There are not 12 or so years old tourists comming here for themself.
I strongly believe that enforcing a RULE to limit your choises in life, is not only
very wrong but actually makes people to act in a viceversa way!

And don't forget that the reason given by "leaders" to justify this rule is "control drugs problem"! It is like to say : "get your drugs earlier"!

If you ever travelled to Isaan and stayed to some villages, you would have noticed that people living there who got some new houses and do speaks some english and do have some knowledge about the existence of different cultures ( actually be awear that the world is not only Thailand), come from families that have a son or daughter who someway actually "interacted"with some farang in bkk, pattaya, or phuket!

Trying to show that you 're a "moralist" doesn't show anything but being just a puppet.

Thaicam, you are getting very confused and writing very contradictory posts.

Bars the law is 12 undesignated entertainement area's and 1 in entertainment area's, Lil told you, it is fact it is the law.

Jet ski operators are forceable scam artists, not probably or maybe and its not just about peoiple who crash into each other, they try it on with all and sundry, try doing a little search on here and you will get to understand a little better.

Touts are NOT paid and again some contradiction, you always ignore them real easily, then you go on to say you have stopped and chatted to them and they are nice ordinary people. But again you have not experienced their scams so you do not know, well try listening to people who live here or holiday here a lot, they do KNOW and are trying to tell you.

Also in one post you are saying its okay to pay whatever you want and then in the next your saying people should'nt overpay cos it sets a higher rate for everyone else??? so which one do you feel is right today? little contradictory??

My advice, instead of putting your ill informed opinion forward over and over again, by all means post your thoughts initially, then sit back and learn from others who do know. Keep saying 'I don't know' but here's my take on it, is a tad ignorant.

Barowner in Soi Eric told me tonight from next week bars open till 3am Monday-Thursday and till 4am Fri-Sun.

Some girls in some of the Soi Tiger bars got arrested for showing too much skin a few days ago! Madness, when tonight they all went naked in Rock Hard.

Well I became an Australian citizen, which means I had half my brain taken out (old joke), and seeing as i was Irish to start with.......

Australians are not very bright (there that should get me in the sh1t)

I must say though on my 2 trips to Patong and Bangla the only ones I ever saw crating hassle were actually youngish Aussie lads, and that was when the were upsetting some of the LB's dancing on Soi Croc, you know jumping up on the table and knocking the lb's off. Mind you they did not last long.

Oh and I am now addicted after just 2 trips to LOS and this bloody forum, add to that I even look at the web cam to keep me happy. Can't wait to get back, but due to an Irish trip that has been organised already for later in the year (Aug/Sept) looks like early next year before I will make it back.
Hopefully next time a men only trip.

THAICAM is making some good points here. I can readily see why some appear very hostile to him, he effectively holds a mirror up to them and they apparently do not like what they see, and thus blame the messenger.

I am not saying I agree with him but it it nice to see some opinions rather than only seeing the "5555555555" and "beer beer beer" sentiment on this forum.

I don’t think the real problem is whether or not it will return back to “normal”, but rather the inconsistency in closing hours. Sure, I can find some bar that sells drinks after 2, but it would probably not be my preferred bar.

There’s no question but that this is hurting Thailand big time. Even my dad was *****ing about the early closing hours. I have no real statistics on this, but my sense is that the nightlife scene in Patong is way “down” even compared to last year. Next high season I predict to see a further decline. Again, just a sense.

In any case, personally I haven’t BF’ed a girl in “ages” (whatever that means, and it’s not really that important), but I do still enjoy immensely just going out and absorbing the “scene”, or “energy” of whatever you call it. If THAT continues to erode, the place will quickly lose the appeal for me personally.

Not a huge loss for Thailand I guess (me potentially leaving that is), but still… My thinking continues to be that trying to attract more so-called “high paying” tourists will only ultimately hurt the locals AND turn Phuket into yet another caged tourist destination. I’ve always liked the diversity of the place (and the moral depravity of course), but there is a limit looming in there that may be about to be crossed…
