Theres lots of places you can go for a quiet drink but if you want nightlife, pretty much in most of Asia it will have the edge of sex to it.. Jakata / HK / etc and thats without Vientienne / Phom Phen etc where it has sex and violence..

All I can say is when you get here, if you dont have a bad attitude about the place in general, I would happily go around the disco's and bars giving you some into to places where drink is more common than sex.. If you find the ratio is still too high.. Nothing we can do can change the place to your satisfaction..

You need to read through all my posts Void. I am not opposed to the pay for play scene and I do know that women pay for it, read a huge article about HIV in Japan from the sex tourism of Japanese women. Even read about English and Aussie girls in Bangkok that go to boy bars and pick their lay!

It was not opposition, it was that I am coming to Phuket to live and after living several months in BKK and visiting Pattaya and Hua Hin I am hoping that there will be more to do than encounter bar girls and the p4p scene.

I have certainly gone out in BKK without having to run into that, though after hours places are ALL about that and with early closing times that is mostly what I am *****ing about. I also wanted to get feedback. This was no judgement on people this was merely a question that I have been repeatedly attacked for asking.

I also stated I quite like thai men so would be very open to finding out where locals hang out in Phuket. I regularly go to the pub here in BKK and love it, and BTW I like Thailand and find loads of other stuff to do, this was my one complaint!

Still L-LOS - alas no 'Bed' Supper Club ....just Supper Club - cool bar/resturant but not a BKK clone. Its near the entrance on Laguna.

Jung Ceylon - when it opens in November (orig scheduled for April) may change things - Q-Bar and couple of Singaporean clubs opperators supposed to open there.

Eurogirl, when I was a bit younger, I came to Thailand for all the good reasons.

Loved the food, people and was always accompagnied by my wife!

Now I am 45, and life is passing by.... I come now ALSO for the nice girls, who gave me sometrills, I am happy to have... I pay, they deliver that is it! Wich doesn't mean you can not make some friends, even among BG's....

Now Patong is NOT Phuket. What is nice, is that every place has his own athmosphere. But...most of the places are adapted for tourists....

Even in Patong, if you don't go the girlie-bars, a lot of places, where people are dancing, and having fun. Some freelancers, but most tourists having fun, while a band is playing.

Outside Patong, many little bars, without bg's, where you can play pool, listen to a band and have sanook

More typcal Thai, if you go to Phuket-town, coming from road to the zoo, just wen you are entering Phuket there is a double road on the right where there is a place where the locals go out! REGULAR thai girls and boys listening to a band playing and having fun. Forgot the name of the place, but I will look it up, maybe some other bm's will now the place!

Anyway havefun, and don't mind the bg's and bm's, although they can be fun to be with! :cheergal:

No matter how you slice it that specific thread was not about keeping his adult son safe, it was about showing the boy a good time..nod nod wink wink...as I said, my mother acted like a mate not a mother and I know how bad that is...could care less what the bloke does or what the Dad does but damn I would hope someone would have told my Mum to be my Mum and not my mate if she came on a board and wanted that kind of advice. Subsequently the Dad explained himself more and it did not sound like his motives were so seedy, but I will say, I can only accept what he said later on face value as the underlying message still seems clear to me.

That is perhaps judgemental or moralising but in some cases I think you need to be honest and MOST people in this world would have agreed with the inappropriateness of that particular concept of Dad taking his son to Phuket to get laid by prostitutes...I am not moralising the latter, merely saying it should not be a father son activity.

I really can't believe how judgemental people are if someone comes here and is not saying "rah rah yay yay what a great scene".

My comments on the LB thread were in no way a "resentment" toward thai women. I know many fine Thai women. My comments were about how judgemental many of the posters on there were and the fact that people who get paid for sex have seen there fair share of **** so if these guys are so paranoid then perhaps they need to think of that as well. If you noticed I was very defensive of Thai culture on that thread and not at all judgemental. What is unfortunate is that it seems there is some forms of judging that people here accept and others that are not accepted.

For the final time, I will reiterate that I do not like the scene and I do not mind saying that. I do not prevent anyone else from doing as they please but my purpose on this thread was to ask those of you who know more about Phuket where I can go and have fun the way I want to. I see many threads asking about the best lb's best bg's best bars best **** best tits etc, so what is so wrong with my question? It really raised my suspicion that perhaps people aren't so comfortable with what they are doing when such a high level of defensiveness is raised over a post that was not in any way meant to inflame anyone but rather was asking for my "best place" question.

mikegb, joj78, LivinLOS - Thanks for the update on Phuket Town. Now that I am married and no longer live in Thailand, I don't really visit any of the night life that much any more. But I confess to still being curious, as hearing stories always brings back the good memories. Great to read many of these places are still hopping.

Both my parents acted like friends.. I never called them Mum and Dad even as a kid but always by thier names.. By the time I was 14 they treated me as a complete adult and would leave me for months at a time (during school) to fend for myself, and let me do as I pleased (drugs, sex, hitchhiking off , etc).. Now its easy to relate to them as people not parents..

The way you live or wished you lived does not define the right or wrong way to handle these things, every relationship is different.. i know a couple of expat fathers who have had thier teenage sons come here and live / stay.. Seems to be a bonding experience as far as I can tell and anyway, who am I to judge..

OK, then unless things have changed dramatically over the years, Phuket Town will be more your speed, and not Patong Beach. Disco's in Patong Beach have a strong P4P undercurrent, as you have already observed. Phuket Town places are mostly different. The problem is, just like any city, the popularity of the places vary on a quarterly (and sometimes monthy) basis. Hence what was popular last month, may not be popular next month. You need to connect with an expat who likes the Phuket Town scene, and get them to explain to you what is CURRENTLY popular.
