I live in the capital of British Columbia, and it is marketed as the city of gardens. There are tea rooms, horse and carriage rides, flower baskets on the lamp posts, murders, home invasions of the elderly, a crack epidemic, aids, hep c, and people bumming money, who always harrass the tourists. So, where ever one goes, one should stay alert, and not cause any problems.
I felt safer in Patong than I do in my "jewel" of a home town, but I did not let this lull me in to a false sense of security. I always remember that money and percieved status, is no defence against a gun or a knife.
