Last nights incident in Soi Tiger

Of course we all witness incidents - i just don't think it is anywhere near as bad as ANYWHERE in the UK for instance....my family lives in a small village and there are fights and vandalism all the time.

Where I lived in the UK was pretty quiet for a city but you could not go out without seeing MANY fights.

Living here, I go out 500% more often than back home and witness 10% of the trouble - figure it out. I feel much safer here even though the potential for extremes of violence IS higher.

Only saw once...a farang being cut by Thai guy..at main Bangla road about 3 years ago during new year eve...otherwise none up to now...maybe because i am drunk most time AND i don't go out and look for this type of incident. I am there to enjoy myself.

Two people were shot dead in a pub in Salford Manchester yesterday at 2.30 in the afternoon.

I would much rather hang about in Patong than Salford.

There are violence in thailand even if no BM have seen it. I think i have read some post here where BM warns other BMs and newbies to walk on Patong beach alone at night!!

If Patong is so save why do we warn people about certain places?

1-2 month ago a Dane living in thailand was beaten to death by his nabour. He complain about the noise.

I think that most tourist places in the world are mostly safe places.

We can behave like idiot when we are home, but behave nicely when we are guest at someones home.

That is why I think we cannot compare Patong to our own hometown. In Patong it is 95-99 % tourist and our hometown 95-99 % local people.

I have been going to Thailand 8-10 times the last 8 years and have never seen any violence. But I know it exist.

No one is saying that Patong is completely safe. The only truely safe place is to stay in bed all day. But, for a teeming resort, with plenty of drunken tourists, and wealth differentials between those said tourists and the locals, it is remarkably safe.

But, like anywhere else, there are some nasty people out there, hence warnings such as the beach road. That doesn`t of course mean that the beach road is as dangerous as dodge city at chucking out time, it just means that the risks there are a little bit higher than the rest of Patong.

Anyway we are all adults. This forum can appraise you of those risks, (hopefully not exaggerated as some posts have been) and you make your choice as an adult about how and where to spend your time.

I would never consider to use my money for a hollyday in Salford.

I think its quite normal that we discuss the change in Patong over the years .
We always come back to the argument that its worse
in somebodys hometown etc.
Many people use a lot of their mony for these hollydays and have diffrent reasons why they choose
Patong as a playground.
The day Patong is just like most of the other destinations is maybee a reasoon for some of the experienced Patong travelers to look out for something new.
I havent consider formyself yet, but its positive that we have an open dialogue in matters like this.

And yes i can see the change in Patong over the years
since the charter troll start to come in big numbers.
If it was up to me the flight ticket price would rice
to get rid of the trolls

We had a discussion like how dangerous is Patong a few weeks ago. And as i mentioned my hometown seems to be much more dangerous than patong. Nevertheless many guys forget that they are moving in a red light district and red light business. The bars and girls dont give you the impression this is prostitution but it is and maybe every crime conected with it. But compared to other red light districts i know it is still very quite and save to the customers.

Just give you an example from good old germany. Frankfurt/main well known for its red light district and nightlife. Not long ago 4 customers of a normal bar, have been shoot, just after leaving the bar. 3 killed and the 4 survived badly injured. What was reported the 4 fellors where in that bar as they work for a subcontractor for some weeks in frankfurt, and went out at the weekend. They made some party for theirself in the bar and had a discussion with a guy also a customer of the bar with his girl friend. The 4 blokes always ordered some drinks for the other mans girl and sending them by the waiter to the table. The other guy got bloody pissed after a while and send the drinks back, but the blokes still ordered more.

Leaving the bar after a while and just in front of the door some guys were waiting and startet fireing with MP´s and pistols the four. 3 of them died at the crime scene, one of them come badly injured into hospital, but survied.

Other customers of the bar reported that the man and his wife left the bar after the man has made a phone call from his mobile phone. They didnt know him but the man was speaking in a foreign language.
So dont piss a mafiosi as this could shorten your life dramatically.

Ok, a longer story but just to show what can happen at locations you dont expect it, as this was no red light district. And Patong is a red light area with the touch of more a normal bar and disco scene.
